Kick off your Halloween season with 1 of the creepiest new films this year, “Green Room”!

Green Room

Green Room

This haunting yet action-packed film follows a d.i.y. punk band as they book a last-minute gig at what turns out to be a white power compound led by PATRICK STEWART. It stars up-and- coming actor ANTON YELCHIN in his last film released during his short life. At times visceral, gory, funny, terrifying, and tragic, this is an unforgettable movie!

Don’t forget, dinner, snacks, alcoholic beverages, and non-alcoholic beverages are available at The New Parkway!

MOSH LIT #2- Pegasus & 924 Gilman present Dave Dictor “MDC: Memoir from a Damaged Civilization”

IT’S MOSH LIT #2! The 4th Wednesday of every month, 2 very Berkeley, very independent institutions Pegasus Books and 924 Gilman present an author, photographer, and/or more at the downtown Berkeley Pegasus for FREE!

We’re proud to continue this series with Dave Dictor of MDC’s brand new book, “MDC: Memoir from a Damaged Civilization: Stories of Punk, Fear, and Redemption”

Dave Dictor, author & singer

Dave Dictor, author & singer

A searing punk memoir by an American original rebelling against conformity, complacency, and conservatism with his iconic band, MDC.

From the time Dave Dictor was young, he knew he was a little different than the all-American kids around him. Radicalized politically while in high school, inspired to seize opportunities by his hard-working parents, and intrigued with gender fluidity, Dictor moved to Austin, and connected with local misfits and anti-establishment rock’n’rollers. He began penning songs that influenced American punk rock for decades.

MDC always has been in the vanguard of social struggles, confronting homophobia in punk rock during the early 1980s; invading America’s heartland at sweltering Rock Against Reagan shows; protesting the Pope’s visit to San Francisco in 1987; in 1993 they were the first touring US punk band to reach a volatile Russia after the collapse of the Soviet Union.

Memoirs of a Damaged Civilization by Dave Dictor

Memoirs of a Damaged Civilization by Dave Dictor

Dictor’s narrative is a raw portrait of an American underground folk-hero who stood on the barricades advocating social justice and spreading punk’s promise to a global audience. Part poet, renegade, satirist, and lover, he is an authentic, homegrown character carrying the progressive punk fight into the twenty-first century.

Dave Dictor is singer, lyricist, and founding member of legendary American punk band MDC (Millions of Dead Cops). Since 1979, Dictor has toured throughout the world with MDC, releasing more than nine albums with MDC that sold more than 125,000 copies. MDC continues to tour, playing over sixty concerts each year.

MOSH LIT #1- Pegasus & 924 Gilman present MICHELLE GONZALES author “The SPITBOY Rule: Tales of a Xicana in a Female Punk Band”

IT’S MOSH LIT #1! The 4th Wednesday of every month, 2 very Berkeley, very independent institutions Pegasus Books and 924 Gilman present an author, photographer, and/or more at the downtown Berkeley Pegasus for FREE!
We’re proud to kick off this series with Michelle “Todd Spitboy” Gonzales & her brand new book, “The SPITBOY Rule: Tales of a Xicana in a Female Punk Band”

f_purple.dress-2
Michelle Cruz Gonzales played drums and wrote lyrics in the influential 1990s female hardcore band SPITBOY, and now she’s written a book—a punk rock herstory. Though not a riot grrl band, SPITBOY blazed trails for women musicians in the San Francisco Bay Area and beyond, but it wasn’t easy. Misogyny, sexism, abusive fans, class and color blindness, and all-out racism were foes, especially for Gonzales, a Chicana and the only person of color in the band.

Unlike touring rock bands before them, the unapologetically feminist SPITBOY preferred Scrabble games between shows rather than sex and drugs, and they were not the angry manhaters that many expected them to be. Serious about women’s issues and being the band that they themselves wanted to hear, a band that rocked as hard as men but sounded like women, SPITBOY released several records and toured internationally. The memoir details these travels while chronicling SPITBOY’s successes and failures, and for Gonzales, discovering her own identity along the way.

Fully illustrated with rare photos and flyers from 924 Gilman & the punk rock underground, this fast-paced, first-person recollection is populated by scenesters and musical allies from the time including Econochrist, Paxston Quiggly, Neurosis, Los Crudos, Aaron Cometbus, Pete the Roadie, Green Day, Fugazi, and Kamala and the Karnivores.

We don’t have totals of tickets sold or money collected- it’s way too early to know, but we DO know that you donated more than $31,000 via our Indiegogo campaign for exclusive shirts, Fox Theater tickets, signed posters, east bay punk tours, and Night Light tickets, among many other thank-you gifts. Gilman also receives 10% of every ticket sold to the event.

We also raised around $1700 during the Fox show in direct donations, mostly for original flyers provided by Aaron Cometbus and the sweet red 924 Gilman shirts printed by our friends at Bad Skulls Printing!

Green Day showed up and accepted a Mayoral Proclamation that February 19, 2016 was Green Day Day from Oakland Mayor Libby Schaff.

All 14 bands ripped through their unique takes on songs from “Dookie”- from gospel choir to Zappa-damaged weirdness to spare Americana to ska-punk and on and on!

You can hear all of these covers on the exclusive CD & digital download, “Undercover Presents A Tribute to ‘Dookie’ by Green Day”924 Gilman receives 10% of every sale!
